Khalifa among
top 50 most powerful people

ABU DHABI - The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ranked 25 in a Newsweek profile of the world’s Top 50 most powerful people.

Shaikh Khalifa joins elite personalities led by United States president-elect Barack Obama, Chinaese President Hu Jintao and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The sovereign wealth fund of Abu Dhabi, according to various research reports including the International Monetary Fund, could be worth up to $ 850 billion.

According to Forbes, Shaikh Khalifa is the world’s second wealthiest royal, with an estimated wealth of 23 billion dollars.

Shaikh Khalifa assumed the office of the President on November 3, 2004. He also heads the Supreme Petroleum Council.

He has also positioned the UAE as an important player in the region. Outgoing US President George W. Bush, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and former president of Russia Vladimir Putin have all visited the UAE in recent months.
