A Khaleej Times employee who travels hundreds of kilometres a day around the city received the White Points Award from Dubai Police on Tuesday.
Two months back, Shameer Kunhi Kandi got a call from the Traffic Department informing him that he had been shortlisted for the award, thanks to his clean driving record.
For two years, he has not had one black point added to his license and as a result, he was congratulated by way of a certificate and hotel stay voucher for his safe and careful driving.
"I received an SMS on Monday informing me to collect my certificate and voucher from the Traffic Department. It's encouraging to be recognised for being safe on the roads and I hope it encourages more motorists to follow suit. It's a great initiative from Dubai Police," he said.
The white points system is an effective incentive for drivers to abide by the road rules. It was first established in 2013 and to date it has rewarded 65,298 drivers; 2,600 of which received prizes and certificates this year.
