Kazakh team visits DNRD

DUBAI — A number of high-ranking officials from Kazakhstan yesterday visited the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD) where they were briefed on the latest technologies used by the department to simplify its procedures including the electronic passport reader which bagged the best technological project award at the Dubai Government Exellence Progamme for 2004.

The delegation headed by Wali Khan, Director of the Consular Affairs at the Kazakhstan Ministry of Foreign Affairs comprised seven other officials from the Foreign Affairs, Interior and Justice Ministries in addition to the National Security Committee and the Public Prosecution of Kazakhstan.

Lieutenant-Colonel Jassim Abdul Ghafoor, Assistant DNRD Director for Entry and Free Zone Affairs, received the delegation and briefed them on the numerous services offered by the Passports Section at the Dubai International Airport and on the training courses organised by DNRD to enhance the efficiency of its immigiraton officers in detecting passport and document forgery cases.

The delegation was taken on a tour of the Dubai International Airport during which they learned about the e-gate project, which allows the e-gate cardholders to finish their entry and exit formalities in just four to five seconds. The delegation members also checked the passport section operations room, which keeps control on the traffic movement and takes immediate measures to avoid long queues in front of the immigration counters.
