A new initiative put in place to mark 50th Anniversary of Bologna Children’s Book Fair in 2013, the award aims to pay tribute to excellence in the world of children’s publishing and was created by BolognaFiere and AIE - Italian Publishers Association.

Speaking about the award, Shaikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Publishing House, said: “It is a true honour to be recognised at this level. The Bologna Children’s Book Fair plays a crucial role in the international children’s publishing arena as a platform for intra-industry exchange and collaboration. To be the only publishing house from the Arab regions and to be singled out for this honour, is not only a privilege but also acts as great encouragement for us to continue striving to make an impact on the region and the world’s publishing arena.”

Kalimat’s aim in disseminating Arabic children’s books to the international market is to foster greater compassion and cultural understanding among future generations, and give children from all across the globe the opportunity to get a glimpse of the rich multi-layered fabric of Arab society.

The BOP - Bologna Prize for Best Children’s Publishers of the Year has been established to recognise publishers operating at the forefront of innovation and to acknowledge and show appreciation for the creative nature and bravery of the editorial choices.

Kalimat, one of the five publishing houses shortlisted from Asia, is the only publisher to be nominated from the Arab world. The announcement of the winner will be made during a ceremony to mark the Fair’s 50th Anniversary on March 26 at the Teatro Comunale, in Bologna.
