True, construction companies are to blame. But that should not shift the focus from the fact that some of these companies have to wait up to two years to secure payments owed to them from the market. In the process payment of salaries get delayed and arrears build up.
The association has been recommending that the Ministry of Public Works should come up with a new and special legislation to rectify and adjust the prevailing situation in the construction market, draw up a new set of regulations that would set the tone of relations between the various players in the sector.
This would help fill the gaps in this sector and help timely payment of salaries to the workers.
The question that arises is that why hasn't the Ministry so far taken the initiative to make a comprehensive study of the situation and set things right in the construction sector?
The construction sector is badly in need of solutions that will extend to all its problems.
