Jobs for nationals to get a boost at show

The opening ceremony was attended by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Mattar Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs.

More than 100 exhibitors are taking part in the three-day events organised by Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, Tanmia, Dubia World Trade Centre, and UAE University.

In his inaugural speech, Mr Al Tayer said that Tanmia is working closely with the Ministry of Education (MoEY), higher educational institutions across the country, as well as specialised training centres, to enhance the skills of UAE nationals.

"Such exhibitions would contribute to provide appropriate job opportunities for UAE nationals. The exhibition is an opportunity for representatives of various establishments to meet officials at educational institutions and observe whether the educational programmes introduced at universities and colleges, suit the requirements of the labour market in the UAE," he said.

Mr Al Tayer explained that establishments, educational institutions, and training centres, have major roles in the process of developing the human resources in the country. "We look at establishments and firms as major partners in developing the human resources in UAE, through offering training programmes, and taking part in the establishment of training centres, among other," he said.

Regarding the role of educational institutions, Mr Al Tayer pointed out that they should update their educational syllabus in accordance with the job requirements, focus on the specialistions that would contribute in boosting the economy.

Shaikh Nahyan said: "One of our country's great strengths is the commitment to provide all possible opportunities for our citizens to excel, every citizen mush have opportunities to achieve his or her full potential in the service of our country."

"At this annual career fair, employers have excellent opportunities to recruit our students. Employers will learn of our strong commitment to produce well-prepared graduates. We are dedicated to quality and to high level of excellence," he said, explaining that students have an excellent opportunity to network with employers and to explore career options.

The future of the UAE depends on the full and productive employment of its citizens, Shaikh Nahyan added, stressing on the importance of promoting new strategies for employing graduates in the future.

"Employers must identify their needs, they must create appropriate employment opportunities in their companies," he noted.

Shaikh Nahyan said: "We look forward to working with all of you to create an accurate information system to match employment opportunities with the qualifications of graduates."
