This announcement came in a ministerial decision issued by Dr Ali bin Abdullah Al Kaabi, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, regarding the need to get academic and technical certificates checked by Emirates Post. The decision was issued on Wednesday and comes into force with immediate effect.

It stated that if the academic or technical certificate was proved incorrect or forged, based on a report obtained from the issuing authority, the transaction for a work permit shall be cancelled.

Also, if the defaulting worker had already entered or was a resident in the country, the company applying for a work permit for him should bear the cost of sending him back to his home country.

Along with the cancellation of the work permit, the ministry will introduce penalties as stated in the Labour Law and the ministry’s decisions and executive regulations. The minister has assigned the under-secretary of the labour ministry to issue instructions needed to implement the decision.
