Jail for stealing laptop
DUBAI — The Dubai Court of Misdemeanour has sentenced Cartrin Gid, a 20-year-old Filipino, to two months in jail followed by deportation for stealing a laptop from her friend and selling it.
The victim, also a Filipino, reported the incident to the police, saying that when she returned home from work, she was shocked to find her bedroom wardrobe broken and the laptop missing. She told police that she suspected her roommate.
The police interrogated her friend, who confessed to the crime. She said she sold the laptop for Dh1,400.
The purchaser was also summoned to the police station, where he claimed he was not aware that the laptop was stolen and subsequently returned it.
The defendant was referred to court, which passed the verdict.
