Jail for assault on father, drug abuse

DUBAI — The Dubai Court has sentenced Saeed M., a 20-year-old UAE national, to four years in prison on the charge of using drugs and an additional six months for assaulting his father.

According to the case history, the father tried to wake up his son who had come late the night before, to go to the mosque for the Juma prayers. The boy closed the door and refused to talk to his father who started knocking on the door. Saeed got angry and started fighting with his father and beat him up.

Saeed's brother intervened and called the police. The father informed police that his son had started taking drugs even after going through de-addiction treatment in hospital.

During interrogation, Saeed confessed that he had assaulted his father, but denied he had consumed alcohol. The policeman who went to arrest the accused observed that Saeed did not seem normal.

Forensic medicine reports showed that the father had suffered a fracuture, following which he could not attend work for three months. Laboratory tests also revealed traces of heroin and hashish in Saeed's urine sample. The court sentenced him based on the available evidence.

Women sentenced

DUBAI — The Dubai Misdemeanour Court has sentenced two women from Azarbaijan — 20-year-old Bahara Yaseer and 19-year-old Azozria Mitchlan — to three months in jail to be followed by deportion for consuming alcohol and for staying illegally in the UAE. The two accused were arrested by the police when they were leaving a hotel in Bur Dubai. The two girls were found by a police patrol while they were laughing, screaming and dancing on the road.

During interrogation, they confessed to the crime. Laboratory tests revealed traces of alcohol in the blood.
