Since being implemented in 2003, the latest technology security system, up until last month, has prevented 351,318 people from re-entering the country who were earlier deported, for various reasons.

Of that figure, 1,150 of those who tried to gain re-entry were repatriated to their home countries only last month.

These comments came from the Director General of Central Operations at the Abu Dhabi Police Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi.

“The system, which had been applied on pursuance of the directives of (the) police leadership, and used in UAE air and land exits, has made great results and proved efficiency in foiling entry attempts to the UAE by persons who had been deported from the country, and returned in bid to enter the country after they changed their names in their passports and obtained visit or work permits in UAE”, he said.

In a statement during an inspection tour at IDEX 2013, he said the system had proven its worth as an effective means of preventing the return of those deported from the country. It also helps in keeping order and stability, he added.

Explaining how the system works, he said the cameras used have been especially designed to capture accurately, with extreme quality, the iris of the eye.

The Ministry of Interior has announced that the service for registration in the Emirates electronic gate is available free for the visitors of its pavilion at IDEX 2013.

According to Maj. Gen. Raisi the service would enable the subscriber to finalise his/her travel procedures easily, and in a maximum of 15 seconds only.

The Ministry is orientating the visitors on the project and the services it offers at present, whether to travellers or airline companies, and its contribution to reinvigorate the tourism sector and highlight the civilised image and the technical progress the country is witnessing.

The Ministry is also displaying at its pavilion the new Emirati e-passport, which it has recently been issued to the UAE citizens as per security and technological conditions issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO.

The new e-passport provides the highest protection levels to Emiratis for the international standards and specifications. It also enables the holder to finalise moving and travelling procedures easily and conveniently.
