International conference on Effective Parenting focusses on parental dilemma of balancing love and anger, and applying democratic parenting principles to raise children.

The conference is to be held in Dubai on Saturday.

Maalainaine Salama, managing director of Ishara Consultants, which is organising the conference, said more than 300 delegates including parents, family educators, early childhood interventionists, family support professionals, schools, parent liaisons, students of education and psychology, child and family advocates and policy makers will participate in the event to be held at JW Marriott Hotel. “They will explore the current issues, share ideas and network with regional decision makers, social researchers and others and expand their vision for a better world for children,” he said in a press release.

The conference, which will cover a variety of aspects in parenting, aims to give recognition to the important role of parenting and provide information based on the latest research.

It is also aimed at informing parents about resources available in the GCC countries, support parents in building on their knowledge, skills and confidence. Education on parenting teenagers, cultural differences in parenting, managing children’s behaviour and aggression, working in partnership with each other and with parents, and many other areas of interest would be highlighted. The sessions will discuss what triggers anger in a parent and resentment in a child, hidden feelings of frustration that often rise to the surface even in the most loving of parents, raising encouraged children, using foundational parenting skills to increase the confidence of parents, developing positive relations with children, identifying, understanding, and managing mistaken goals of child’s misbehaviour and helping children and adolescents to think about the future in a positive way.

Organised with the support of Al Maktoum Foundation, the event will be inaugurated by Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Minister of Finance, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Municipality.
