The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has developed a major road intersection at a cost of Dh1.2 million.
The Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan Bu Alian project is considered one of the "most important infrastructure projects in the emirate", said Dr Mohsin Balwan, director of road maintenance, SRTA.
Besides easing the flow of traffic, it is also expected to boost economic growth as it meets the needs of residents, Dr Balwan said.
"The developed intersection lies in Al Ramlah and Al Mansura areas on one side and Al Jazat and Al Hazana areas on the other side."
Old concrete road barriers were removed and new pavement blocks and tiles were installed, he added. "The traffic lights have been repositioned and new ones were put up to ensure maximum safety for all road users."
Late in January this year, the SRTA developed a major road extending from Intersection-5 to Al Rahmaniya area for Dh28 million.
"The SRTA is working on a comprehensive plan to develop the entire road network of the emirate, apart from its regular maintenance as per the latest international standards," the official said.
