International Women’s Cultural Forum to be held in Dubai soon

DUBAI - Under the patronage and in the presence of Princess Haya bint Hussain, wife of General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Minister of Defence, an International Women’s Cultural Forum will take place shortly in Dubai.

The forum will be organised by Merchant Media, a Dubai-based media company which sent invitations to delegations from various parts of the world, according to Petra Muller, Director of the company and head of the organising committee and Iman Ismail, Vice-President of the forum.

Ms Muller said that the forum, which will be sponsored by groups of major companies in Dubai, aims at bringing forth a cultural exchange of traditions and values in the families of the international community.

She added the international community of the UAE will attend this forum. It will be based on topics on “Family Values” where female speakers from the diplomatic community in Dubai will be imparting information regarding family values and cultural tradition existing in their countries to the invited female guests.

Ms Muller pointed out that the forum, which will be attended by more than 3,000 ladies from all the world, will also feature multimedia presentations showing various cultural and traditional aspects from the participating countries.

The speakers of forum will discuss various topics including cultural tradition, marriage arrangements, marriage ceremonies and customs, family values and women in the family.

Ms Ismail, for her part, said that the event’s inauguration ceremony will feature a programme which includes soft music and spraying of oud fragrance among the gathering. It will be followed by an opening speech by Princess Haya.

“At the entrance of the auditorium, each participant will receive a flower that will be handed over by girls and boys in traditional Arabic dresses,” she added.

She said the two-day forum will feature six sessions which will be chaired by Princess Haya who will deliver a working paper on “Women in Middle East” wherein she will discuss the role of Arab women in the development process.

“As vice-president of the forum, I will discuss my book on “The Family in Islam” which highlights marriage life, family relationship, and the key role played by Arab and Muslim women in development of the family,” she said.

Ms Ismail said the main objectives of this forum are to achieve international understanding between women in future communication, exchange ideas, and learn from each other’s experiences. She said the forum will provide the opportunity to the women of the world to get together and discuss their issues and learn various experiences from each other.

Naeema Al Hadeedi, wife of the Consul General of Jordan, said that on the sidelines of the forum there will be many activities including UAE heritage and precious stone exhibition as well as a photo exhibition of women from the past and present.
