Interior Ministry official pays inspection visit to Abu Dhabi Airport

ABU DHABI — Major-General Saif Abdullah Al Shafaar, Under-Secretary of the Interior Ministry, paid an inspection visit to the Abu Dhabi International Airport on Tuesday.

He visited different sections of the ADIA, including the arrivals and departures terminals.

He also inspected progress of work on the Emirates e-gate where he was briefed on plans to link the e-gate with the unified system of naturalisation and residency to streamline exit and entry procedures. He watched a live demonstration of the e-gate functioning.

Maj-Gen Al Shafaar also stopped at the passport reading machines, security check gates for passengers and their baggage.

He urged the ADIA authorities to introduce modern systems which are in use in advanced countries to simplify travel formalities and protect national security.

Maj-Gen Al Shafaar was received at the airport by Brigadier Mohammad Ghurair Al Rumaithi, Acting Director-General of the Naturalisation and Residency Departments in the Ministry of Interior, Colonel Nasser Al Minhali, Director-General of Department of Naturalistion and Residency in Abu Dhabi, and a number of top police officers.

Later, he went to the Naturalisation and Residency branch at Al Wathba. The branch receives violators of entry and residency laws in the morning and evening to process immigration transactions from finger-printing to issuance of outpasses for amnesty-seekers.
