The authority has given the outlets a grace period until September 3 following which action will be taken against offenders.

A circular has been sent by the Authority to all grocery shops in the emirate to stop mixing the two businesses of supermarket and grocery.

"We will carry out inspection raids after September 3 to make sure that all outlets complied with the instructions. We will take action against the offenders including temporary closing down of the outlet," said Saeed bin Mohammed Al Muhairi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

He said outlets wishing to continue doing the two businesses under one roof should obtain a licence from the authorities which will automatically require them to expand the outlet to 40 square metres and follow certain hygiene regulations.

This move followed the authority's move which ordered outlets selling .f+i.shawarma.f-i. to stop serving the popular sandwiches outdoors.
