The defendant told the Public Prosecution that he did the act out of intent to be moved to another cell.

An Emirati policeman told the prosecutors that while on duty in the Central Prison the fire alarm went off.

“By checking the surveillance cameras I saw the fire in cell No. 7 where the defendant was kept,” he said.

When the policeman ordered the inmate to put out the fire the latter allegedly told him to let him die. “I insisted and he finally put it off. I asked him why he did that and he said he wanted to be moved out of solitary confinement to another cell where there were prisoners in drug cases,” he said. — mary@khaleejtimes.ae
