The board approved the establishment of an Industrial Engineering Department. Shaikh Sultan said he was pleased with the headway made by AUS in consonance with its mission and strategic initiatives and thanked the members of the board for their commitment to the university.

Dr. Peter Heath, Chancellor of AUS, said the Department of Industrial Engineering was created to house the undergraduate programme in Industrial Engineering and the graduate programme in Engineering Systems Management.

Other resolutions approved by the board included changing the name of the Department of Design to the Department of Art and Design. The board also extended membership of trustee Dr. Roderick French.

To thank the Sharjah Ruler for his support to the university, the board passed a resolution expressing gratitude for the funding of additional facilities on campus including a female dormitory, a sports pavilion, additional parking space and wheelchair access on campus. Work on these projects will begin this summer.

Dr. Heath said that the board approved an increase in the tuition and fees for 2013-2014, not to exceed 4.5 per cent, as the final amount will be announced subsequently.

Subsequent to the meeting, Shaikh Sultan visited the Club Fair held at the Student Centre and inspected stalls put up by scores of national, ethnic and interest-oriented clubs on campus. The Ruler was accompanied by members of the Board of Trustees and senior AUS representatives.
