Murgiyati Supriyadi, head of the Indonesian Women’s Association and wife of the Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE, Mohammed Wahid Supriyadi, graced the occasion and handed over Dh3,000 to the centre with plenty of gift items for children.

Indonesian dancers and singers along with traditional bamboo music kept the students entertained.

Murgiyati said, “We are looking for another centre to do the same for special needs children.”

There are 65 students between the age group of 3-20 years at the SCC from 12 different nationalities, in which two are nationals, said Nisha Thomas, head of education and training and board member of the SCC.

“Children with special needs, are not a burden to society. They are our commitment. The ‘Donate A Brick Campaign ‘calls for the community to come together to raise funds to build the new campus. The concept behind this is to build a school by the community for the community,” Thomas said.

“To help build a new school for special needs children one can donate Dh5 for a brick as Dh5 million bricks have to be collected for building the new centre in Al Bahia in the Capital,” Thomas said. “The total cost of the new building project is Dh50 million and we have collected Dh8 million, so far,” Thomas said.
