Indians gear up for I-Day festivities

ABU DHABI — Indian officials in the UAE are preparing to celebrate their country's independence day on August 15. The event will mark 60 years of independence. The celebrations which will be held in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai will start at 8 am.

Chandra Mohan Bhandari, the Indian ambassador in Abu Dhabi, will host the event on the embassy's premises. He will kick off the ceremony by hoisting the Indian flag. The Indian president's message will be read during the programme. Schoolchildren will sing patriotic songs.

In Dubai, the celebrations will take place at the Indian High School in Bur Dubai, where the Indian flag will be hoisted by Yashvant Sinha, the Indian Consul-General in the emirate. Indian associations from all other emirates will also celebrate the independence day with various cultural programmes.
