Viacom18 Media, the conglomerate that runs the station in India, said the regional launch follows its international expansion in the US, UK and Australia, in a bid to reach the diversified South Asian expatriate community.

“We have already invested in our shows and our focus is on delivering it to more people across the globe. We believe that our Indian product will work spectacularly well with the Asian audiences and the launch is in line with our international expansion plans,” said Rajesh Kamat, CEO of Colors.

Viacom 18 Media will spend Rs4.5 billion over the next two years on satellite rights for more than 60 Hindi films. A slew of Bollywood movies are lined
up for telecast over the next few months, including “Once Upon a time
in Mumbai” and “Lafangey Parindey”.

Kamat said the channel had reduced the gap between theatrical release and television premieres to less than 45 days.

Abdel Ghani Ali, CFO, Arab Media Corporation (AMC), said Colors would add a greater depth to the general entertainment quotient of the Pehla bouquet. The channel will be distributed on DTH exclusively on Pehla packages in the Middle East and North Africa countries.
