India's Election Commission has made it clear that the results of exit polls can be disseminated only after 6.30 pm IST on Monday, the last day of polling in the nine-phase elections to the Lok Sabha.

Polling began in 41 constituencies at 7 am today and will end at 6 pm in most places, except a few areas, where it will end at 4 pm due to security considerations.

'In order to remove any doubt, it is clarified that under the law (Section 126A of a Representation of the People Act, 1951), the results of exit poll can be disseminated only after 6.30 pm on May 12, 2014, as already notified by the Commission vide its notification dated 3rd April 2014,' an official press release from the Commission said last night.
