Indian drowns off Al Khan Beach in Sharjah

A 25-year-old Indian died and a 23-year-old Afghan is battling for life in separate drowning incidents that took place around 6pm off Al Khan Beach in Sharjah on Friday.

The police, who were alerted by visitors on the beach sent rescue teams to the locations. Though both victims were rescued, the Indian, identified as Sarfraz, died during resuscitation process by the ambulance paramedics. The Afghan, identified as Gilafuddeen, was rushed to Al Kuwaiti hospital where he has been admitted in the ICU and put under the ventilator.

The police said that two persons swam in restricted areas and did not follow the instructions, which include the warning about possibility strong and high waves.

The police have been running an awareness campaign to instruct beach vistors to swim only in the safe areas and also check the weather before getting into the water.
