Incentive plan has positive impact on inmates

ABU DHABI — The Rewards and Incentives Programme of the Corrective and Reformatory Establishments Department of Abu Dhabi Police in the Al Wathba Prison has boosted the self-confidence of a large number of inmates and spurred others to compete with each other to avail themselves of the benefits.

Department Director Brigadier Yusouf Abdul Karim said the programme, consisting of religious, cultural, sports, educational, self-reform, vocational training and creative activities, "aims at stimulating inmates to engage in activities offered by the rehabilitation section. It helps inmates to quit bad habits."

"Telephone conversation is one of the key rewards in addition to private visits by friends and cash prizes," he added.

He explained that the programme based on the points system in which each inmate is given three points for each reward and on accumulation of 50 points the inmate is given the excellence badge (white star tailored on the uniform).
