Illegals Jailed on Drugs-Related Charges

FUJAIRAH - Two men who made their way across the border to the UAE from Oman were sentenced to four years each in jail by the Fujairah Shariah Criminal Court of First Instance.

They were also convicted of consuming drugs, but acquitted of smuggling in the contraband for lack of evidence.

A team from the Frontiers Guard at Diba Fujairah arrested the men when they attempted to jump over the iron barrier separating the Diba-Fujairah side of the UAE and Diba Al Baiyaa of Oman. When searched, the personnel of the Frontiers Guard recovered two pieces of narcotics in their possession. They were also found to be in an abnormal condition.

The Anti-Narcotics office of Fujairah Police sent the two men to undergo lab tests. The results showed they had taken opium and hashish.
