ID cards introduced at e-gates at UAE airports

ABU DHABI - The National Identity Cards can now be used by travellers at the e-gates at the airports nationwide, said Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, director general of the Central Operations at the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi police and the board member of the Emirates Identity Authority.

He stressed significance of the identity card in terms of linkage to services rendered by the public and private institutions, as well as its linkage with the database of the ministries and other institutions.

Major General Al Raisi noted that the national identity card as a unified document would meet security requirements and speed up administrative and electronic services as per higher standards of safety and privacy.

“The addition of the e-gate service to the identity card has provided a number of merits, among others, activation of the identity card’s role as a comprehensive unified document, which facilitates services to save time and effort”, he added.

Mohammed Ahmed Al Zaabi, director of the Emirates E-Gate Project, reiterated that the addition of the e-gate system into the card would enable users to benefit when travelling at the border points, which have introduced the e-gate systems.

He added that the service would be added to the card without presenting documents against Dh150, renewable for two years provided that passport is valid at least for six months for residents.
