ID card must for school admission in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) recently announced that the Emirates ID card is mandatory for registering new students in Abu Dhabi schools for the coming academic year 2012-2013.
The council requested parents to provide the ID card among the documents necessary for registering their children, whether nationals or residents, in all academic stages between kindergartens and grade 12.
The ADEC’s initiative came as part of the continuous government and corporate support for the Emirates Identity Authority for completing the population register and ID card project. Earlier, the Eida announced that the grace period for registering national and resident children would end on October 1, 2012 all over the UAE.
Instant Card renewal from next month
The Emirates Identity Authority (Eida) will start experimental instant delivery of the renewed ID cards at four Eida centres in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah from February 1, said Dr Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Director-General of the authority.
The centres are Musaffah Registration Centre and Al Wahda Registration Centre in Abu Dhabi, Al Barsha Registration Centre in Dubai and Sharjah Registration Centre in Al Rahmaniya area.
“From February, nationals and residents can renew their ID cards and receive them immediately after filling out the renewal application form and paying the required fees,” an official spokesman of the Eida said, adding that when the experiments are successful in these centres, the service will be extended to other main registration centres across the country.
In the current stage, the ID cards issued for the first time cannot be instantly delivered as the information in the applications need to be verified by all the entities the Emirates Identity Authority is dealing with, not to mention the need to take photos and fingerprints, he said.
New MoU
Dubai e-Government recently signed an MoU with the Eida to support government integration and digital transformation through electronic linkages in pursuit of its digital transformation towards an integrated knowledge-based society. The agreement was signed by Ahmed bin Humaidan, Director-General of Dubai e-Government, and Dr Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Emirates ID Director-General, at the Dubai e-Government headquarters at the Dubai Ruler’s Court.
Under the terms of the agreement, Dubai e-Government commits itself to introducing the required central applications for integrating with the infrastructure of the digital identity applications so as to optimise usage of the Population Register and complete the electronic linkage between the Eida and all Dubai government entities.
