Over the past few days, UAE residents have joined hands to commemorate the upcoming UAE National Day which falls on December 2. And, it's not just the UAE citizens who are feeling patriotic; many expatriates, too, have been adorning their homes and cars with the colours of the UAE flag.
Take Lebanese expatriate, Joelle Rached, for example. Rached is proud to be Lebanese, but after 10 years in Dubai, she feels a "sense of pride" in being a part of the special celebrations.
"My family and I have been here for 10 years. We feel like we belong here. My child was born here so this is home to us now," she told Khaleej Times.
During the run-up to the 44th anniversary, both Emirati and expatriates alike have been displaying their true patriotism by turning out to an array of elaborate events around the city.
This year again, like many years before, Rached and her family attended the National Day Parade in Downtown Dubai, but come December 2, they'll be out of town.
"We usually always join in the National Day festivities. We feel proud to celebrate with our UAE comrades, both Emiratis and expatriates. This year we are heading out of town, though, as it's a longer holiday."
Twelve-year-old Sundaresh Sundaragopal has requested one thing from his father come Wednesday - a quick trip to the large flagpole along Jumeirah Beach. But why?
"Because he wants to salute it," his father, Sundaragopal Krishnamoorthy, told Khaleej Times.
Born and raised in Dubai, Sundaresh loves learning about Arabic culture and the history of the UAE, he even took part in the National Day Parade this year.
"He walked along with the parade holding a flag. This week he is also visiting the Heritage Village in Bur Dubai to learn more about the UAE culture, both its past and present."
After moving to Dubai 15 years ago, Sundaragopal said Dubai started off as his second home, but to him, it's now his "first home".
"I've spent half my life here. I am so proud of this country. I may not be of Emirati heritage but the UAE is my country."
As the sea of black, red, white and green continues to blanket the cars, homes and shops of Dubai, a smorgasbord of activities will be hosted over the next few days which will see an array of nationalities unify to celebrate the 'Spirit of the Union'.
The popular tourist hotspot Jumierah Beach Residence will host a new and unique event, dubbed 'Emirates Wonderland'. The four-day event will begin on December 2, and will boast UAE-themed decoration while bringing to life Emirati heritage. It will conclude on December 5.
As the set was still being put together on Monday, British tourist, Hayley Goodhew was curious to know what it was all in aid of. When she was informed about the upcoming UAE National Day celebrations, she said one thing has been obvious during her 10-day trip to Dubai.
"The country's flag is everywhere. I can tell the residents here are proud to live here. It's lovely to see."
And she compared the patriotism to back home in the UK.
"The British are very patriotic, too. When we celebrate the Queen's Jubilee we always proudly wave our flag during the days leading up to such celebrations. It's the same here."
