Mohammed Ali Nouri, manager in a transport firm in Teheran, was hit by a truck when he was walking near the Sana intersection in Karama area of Bur Dubai on February 2. It was his fourth day in Dubai. Since then, he has been lying in Rashid Hospital in a comatose condition.

Mohammed's 20-year-old daughter Shabna Nouri, a Business Administration student in Teheran University had to abandon her studies in order to take care of her father. Her mother Mastaneh, too, is stranded.

"I came with my parents to Dubai on a 10-day holiday on January 29. On the fourth day of our stay here my father was knocked down by a truck. A few days later I had to leave for Iran with my mother as our visa expired," said Shabna.

"We returned immediately on fresh visas. Since then we have made three visa runs and spend our time in the hospital. I had to abandon my studies as we have no source of income and cannot leave my mother alone here," she added.

According to doctors at Rashid Hospital, Mohammed is in a vegetative state and chances of his revival are almost nil.

Mastaneh said she wants to take her husband to Iran, but is unable to bear the expenses.

When contacted, officials at the Iranian consulate in Dubai said they were not aware of the case, but promised to look into the matter.
