Dressed in all black, the man was seen directing traffic for nearly six hours
The Director-General of the RAK Ports and Customs Department, Mohammed Abdullah Al Mihrazi, said the sophisticated equipment would help curb the smuggling of drugs into the country, thus boost security and safety at the country’s checkpoints in Ras Al Khaimah.
Al Mihrazi stressed that the new gadrgets can detect even the minutest of drugs and explosives. He noted that drug trafficking in the emirate was on the increase over the past years and on many occasions drug dealers had been arrested.
Most of the drugs and dangerous weapons, he pointed out, had been smuggled through some of the entry points which have not sophisticated detectors.
According to Al Mihrazi, the new detectors introduced at entry points in the emirate had already been used at various checkpoints in other emirates and had proved to be effective in detecting drugs, resulting in the arrest of many smugglers.
