Last month, Dubai Customs officials had foiled an attempt to smuggle in 8kg of heroin in a consignment of auto spare parts at the Dubai Cargo Village.

Senior Manager of Air Cargo Operations at Dubai Customs, Omar Al Muhairi, said the four packets were seized from a parcel sent from an Asian country. “Noticing some unevenness, the inspector in charge scanned the cargo and 3.5kg of heroin powder was found upon further examinations.”

In line with the ongoing coordination and cooperation, the case was referred to the Anti-Narcotics Department of Dubai Police. “Protecting the community tops the strategic objectives of Dubai Customs and goes in parallel with its second aspect of the corporate mission in reinforcing national economy,” he said.-—ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
