Hearing on Harrods v/s Harrods case on Feb 4
DUBAI — Hearing on the Harrod versus Harrods case was adjourned till February 4 by the Dubai Court of First Instance yesterday to facilitate exchange of statements.
The popular “Harrods” of London filed a lawsuit against Harrods General Trading and Harrods Tourism in Dubai, for using the commercial trade name of Harrods of London, and sought compensation for it.
However, the defence of Harrods of Dubai, represented by Attorney Sameer Jaafar, sprang a surprise on Harrods of London by filing a counter lawsuit against the plaintiff, demanding cancellation of the trademark registered for the first plaintiff with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce under the name “Harrods”, on grounds that the tradename was not used in the UAE for five consecutive years.
