On January 4, 2007, a brawl had erupted between a 23-year-old student A.S. and his brother R.S. on one side and 22-year-old student A.L. and 18-year-old salesman I.N. on the other. All are UAE nationals. During the brawl, which soon turned into a violent fight, A.S. asked his younger brother to get a knife from a nearby supermarket.
In his statement to the police, I.N. had alleged that A.S. ran after A.L. and cornered him behind a car where he repeatedly stabbed him. I.N. also admitted punching A.S. and causing physical harm to him.
