Healthy diet for diabetics urged in Ramadan

AL AIN — The head of the Emergency Department in Al Ain Hospital, Dr Aisha Al Khimairy, has urged people with diabetes and cardiac ailments to stick to healthy nutrition not only during Ramadan but throughout the year.

Those who are fasting should start their Iftar with soup and dates, she advised.

According to Dr Al Khimairy, the hospital’s Emergency Department receives at least 300 patients everyday during Ramadan who complain of stomach pains, dyspepsia, heartburn and colon pain after Iftar.

She attributed the trend to improper eating habits.
