Speaking to Khaleej Times, Saif Salim Al Shamsi, Deputy Director, Ajman Municipality, said that they have recently amended their health regulations and rules. This was done in order to cope with the rapid development in the emirate to fulfill the Municipality's objective of maintaining public health.

Health inspectors have already distributed circulars to the owners of restaurants, cafeterias and cafes to notify them about the new rules and regulations. They will warn errant restaurants and give them a time frame to correct their mistakes. But if they are found violating the regulation for the second time, then their premises would have to face closure, Al Shamsi said.

Dr Mohammed Attia, Deputy Director of the Health Section pointed out that the Municipality has introduced sophisticated equipments to monitor the level of food contamination. They would take samples from food served to customers in restaurants, cafes and cafeterias to test the quality level. If the result exceeds the reasonable limit, the Municipality will analyse the samples in its Central Laboratory to find out the food's health value. The Municipality is making great efforts in ensuring healthy society through its regular campaigns, he maintained.

As part of this campaign, the Municipality has also banned smoking in ladies saloon and beauty centres to ensure the health of non-smoking ladies who regularly visit these saloons. Circulars were distributed among the saloon owners and workers to notify them about the decision which aims at maintaining public health. The women inspectors of the Municipality will conduct surprise visits to these saloons to ensure that they are abiding by health regulations set up by the civic body.

The Municipality also ordered all those who keep junk and other objects in front of their outlets to remove them immediately.
