Gulf Orthodox youth conference in Dubai from tomorrow

DUBAI — A two-day Gulf conference of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement, which will draw some 1,000 delegates from all over the GCC countries, will open at St. Thomas Orthodox Great Church Dubai on March 2.

The conference, lining up several prominent speakers and scholars, also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the Youth Movement belonging to the 2,000-year-old Malankara Orthodox Church. The conference venue — Mar Thoma Mathews II Nagar — is named after the former supreme head of the church who passed away recently.

In addition to delegates from all units of the organisation in the Gulf, representatives from India, Malaysia, USA and other places are expected to participate in the event being organised under the auspices of the UAE Zonal committee and hosted by the Dubai unit.

Elaborate arrangements are in the final stages and are coordinated by a 200-member Organising Committee headed by Rev Fr P. K. Thomas.

"Those who wish to participate in the conference from countries other than the UAE can avail of the facilities offered with regard to their visit and stay in UAE," said Fr. Thomas.

Youth Movement President, Dr Yuhanon Mar Meletius Metropolitan, will lead the conference and present the keynote address on 'Pilgrimage to Truth'. Paul Manalil, Assistant Editor, Malayala Manorama, will present a paper on ' Malankara in 2012' - 100 years after the establishment of Catholicate.

General Convener, P.G. Mathew said the highlights of the event includes retreats, debates, media conference, literary conference, seminars, newspaper photo display, ecumenical conference, leadership workshops and cultural programmes. The ecumenical meeting will be addressed by Rev. Stephen Miller (Anglican Church), Catherine Graham (MECC), Raynah Briganzah (Catholic Youth coordinator) and P.M. Jose (YMCA).
