Granting trade licence

A NEW mechanism has to be devised by the Ministry of Labour for approving new trade licences. Applicants should be UAE nationals with a proven track record and submit project feasibility studies to secure new licenses.

This has become necessary following cases of some Asian nationals abandoning their original sponsors once they entered the UAE on visit visas and instances of some others even managing to establish fake companies.

In yet another unsavoury episode, a visiting expatriate could get fake trade licences and get 28 workers into the country without the sponsor's knowledge.

The ministry of labour is apparently doing its best to tighten the noose on fake companies by hiking the fee for importing labour and following strict procedures with regard to signature verifications.

But representatives of fake companies are getting smarter perpetually trying to come up with new tricks of their nefarious trade to pull the wool over the eyes of authorities. For this reason, a new and different mechanism should be devised to cotton on to their designs and foil their efforts.
