Far too often, many UAE residents have yet to really get to know the other emirates; in some cases, the very emirate they live in.
Fortunately, the relatively relaxed days and long nights of the Holy Month of Ramadan offer a perfect opportunity to get to know the UAE, with the added bonus of seeing it during such a culturally and spiritually significant period. After all, Ramadan is meant to be spent with family and friends - what better way to spend time together than to go explore after Iftar?
For example, City Sightseeing Sharjah (CSS) - which was launched by Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) in collaboration with City Sightseeing Worldwide - have announced a new Ramadan timetable for their buses, which are one of the principle attractions for visitors to Sharjah. Following Iftar, tours will begin at 8:30pm, with the last departure being at 11pm.
The buses - which run every half an hour - have various pick-up locations, such as the Al Majaz waterfront, Central Souq, Al Qasba, and the Al Noor Mosque. The hop-on, hop-off tour takes one on an informative journey throughout the city, including the Heart of Sharjah, the exquisite Sharjah Islamic Museum, Flag Island, Al Montazah, Cultural Square, the Gold Centre, and - for aviation buffs - the Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah's first airport building.
"The Holy Month of Ramadan is a spectacular time to witness the cultural and authentic atmosphere of Sharjah," said Ahmed Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority. "This is more than a tourist trip, it is a view of a different society, the change to experience a spiritual journey and a window into our precious heritage."
Commentary on the buses comes in seven languages: Arabic, English, Russian, German, Mandarin, Spanish and Urdu. Additionally, the buses come equipped with WiFi, which allows one to share the experience of their journey on social media while on the go. It's well worth a trip.
For those curious in seeing more of the UAE, City Sightseeing also offers tickets for tours that take one past dozens of locations across Ajman and Dubai as well. Tickets are available online at www.city-sightseeing.com.
