Global walk to fight child hunger

DUBAI — On Sunday, May 13, hundreds of thousands of people around the world will walk together over a 24-hour period in each of the planet’s time zones, to deliver the message that child hunger has no place in this world and that citizens across the globe can put an end to it.

In Dubai, the walk will take place officially at Zabeel Park at 7pm on May 13, with entertainment from the Dubai Drums beginning at 6pm.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), along with its major corporate partners, TNT and Unilever, is teaming up with an array of celebrities, dignitaries, and people affected by hunger themselves, for the fifth annual, ‘Fight Hunger: Walk the World’.

Also partnering this annual walk in Dubai is the UAE Red Crescent, Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Education.

“Walk the World brings together all who care about child hunger,” said Josette Sheeran, WFP Executive Director.

“This unique event includes men, women and children displaced by civil conflicts and children who receive daily meals at schools in developing countries.”

Funds raised by the event will go to WFP's Global School Feeding Programme, which links food and education by offering free meals to the world's most vulnerable children.

Those wishing to step in may do so by organising a walk, joining a walk, by sponsoring a participant, donating to a walk or by making a general donation through www.FightHunger.org.
