Girls outscored boys in the UAE as the department of higher secondary education in Kerala declared the results for the state Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations on Tuesday, June 30.
From nine schools affiliated to SSLC, 597 students had appeared for the examination. Overall, 37 per cent of the girls secured A+ as opposed to 27 per cent of boys.
Overall, 72 students secured A+ in all the papers of which 53 are from The Model School, Abu Dhabi.
School principal Abdul Kader V.V. is happy with his school’s performance. He said students who missed the exam this year due to Covid-19 can take the Save a Year (SAY) exam later.
“We had a total of 166 students registered for the examination, but only 163 — 100 girls and 63 boys — could attend the exams. Three students tested positive for Covid-19 and will take the Save a Year (SAY) exam.”
He added: “We have a 100 per cent success rate. Our 53 students got A+ and 29 students lost out on full A+ for just one paper. This is a good result. I laud the hard work of our teachers and students and efforts taken by parents.”
Meanwhile, Shajahan K Mohammed, principal, New Indian Model School Sharjah, said: “In New Indian Model School Sharjah, out of our 42 students who appeared for the exams, one candidate couldn’t complete the examination because of the quarantine period.
“I congratulate and convey my happiness at the excellent results and thank the team effort of all the teachers and parents with special appreciation to all the students of the 2019-2020 batch.”
New Indian Model School Dubai secured 100 per cent pass in the examination attended by 106 students. Among them, 10 secured full A+ in all the 10 subjects.”
The SSLC exams were postponed midway due to Covid-19 restrictions and the pending Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics exams were later conducted towards the end of May under proper social distancing guidance.
All students, invigilators and staff wore masks and gloves. Hand sanitisers were placed in every hall and disinfection was carried out at the entire facility before and after the exams.
