A whopping Dh54,800 was raised selling a range of chocolate chip, oat and peanut butter cookies by the Sharjah Girl Guides (SGG) to aid prisoners languishing in jails for non-payment of debts.
'Cookies for a Cause', the annual SGG fundraising campaign, launched in collaboration with Faraj Fund, almost doubled the amount collected the previous year. Fifty-four SGG Brownies (7 to 11 years) and Guides (12 to 15 years) sold cookies as part of the campaign set up to help the cause of prisoners jailed for failure to repay their debts.
The fundraising initiative is in line with SGG's commitment to inculcate the values of giving and instill a philanthropic mindset among the kids.
