GCC Traffic Week ends

ABU DHABI/ SHARJAH — The activities of the 22nd GCC traffic week aimed at increasing awareness about safey measures to prevent accidents, concluded yesterday in Abu Dhabi.

The activities were organised at Abu Dhabi marina mall from March 18 on the theme of "Safety in adherence".

Colonel Gheith Hassan Al Za'abi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department affiliated to the Abu Dhabi police headquarters, praised the arrangements made by several organisations like Adnoc distribution company and Emirates Driving Company and other companies.

Colonel Al Za'abi noted that the traffic week programmes had hightlighted the main reasons behind traffic accidents with both drivers and pedestrians culpable. Families had a role to play by cautioning their children to follow the traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, Brigadier Salih Al Mutawa, Sharjah Police chief, honoured yesterday the delegations of Gulf countries, directors of government departments, private establishments and good drivers who participated in the Traffic Week activities during the honouring ceremony organised by the Sharjah Police Department at the new technical licence premises. Addressing the event, Brigadier Rashid Gharaib, Director of Sharjah Traffic Department, said that this year’s slogan of the Traffic Week ‘Obligation is safety’ expressed the important role of social cooperation.
