The Ajman Police on Monday arrested a gang comprising four Africans for robbing bank clients. In the most recent case, the gang robbed a man who was coming out of a bank after withdrawing an amount of Dh60,000.
Col. Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, Deputy Director of police operation department, said that they received a complaint from an Indian national about being robbed soon after withdrawing cash from a bank. The victim said he had withdrawn cash from a bank, kept it in his car and had gone into a nearby shop briefly for some work. When he came back, he found the glass of the car was broken and the cash stolen.
The police immediately dispatched a team of CID officers to the crime scene to confirm the information, and launched intensified investigations that resulted in the arrest of the gang within 24 hours of the reported robbery.
Col Al Matroushi explained that the investigation revealed that the gang members changed the car which they used in the crime in another emirate. The police team prepared a trap to arrest the gang red-handed.
The team intensified the surveillance of the bank and zeroed in on the gang members that was closely watching the bank clients, mainly the ones making cash transactions at the bank. The police officers then surrounded the gang and arrested them after facing much resistance from it. The police referred the case to the public prosecution.
Col Al Matroushi praised the efforts of the police officers who managed to trace and arrest the violent gang members in only 24 hours from the time of the crime. Police have warned bank clients against carrying large amounts of cash as they are at risk of being robbed.
