According to a Sharjah police official, the operations room of the police has been receiving reports from various shops and supermarkets about belongings and money stored at the outlets being stolen. “We have found that the robberies occurred at various residential and commercial areas in the emirate and the same techniques were followed. A security team was immediately formed by the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate into the robbery cases and arrest the culprits before they could target other shops.”
The official added that investigations led to the arrest of one of the suspects, and on raiding his house, several stolen items were found including money, brand new laptops, mobile phones and watches.
“The arrested member who led the police to the other gang members said that he used to rob the shops along with five others. They used to go to the shops during late hours and break open doors or windows.”
