Further vigil needed on pharmacies

THE pharmacies — at least, some of them — whose trade licences were abrogated a year ago, now work in the night shift only.

This vindicates our previous reports regarding violations and excesses committed by some drugstore owners at night. The owners of such pharmacies resort to pharmacists to operate their pharmacies, but actually a catastrophe may occur if the pharmacists make use of other assistants to help them while they are away from the pharmacies. Those assistants may sometimes be accountants or cashiers or some other workers.

We pointed out earlier the seriousness of the matter if some unqualified persons get to be in charge of drugstores. Surely, these assistants — or we can call them salesmen — may sell a wrong medicine to the patient, and that may endanger his or her life. As a matter of fact, such a danger is most likely to happen at night, owing to the large number of emergency cases happening at night.

In fact, we do agree that it is against the law to reopen a pharmacy after its trade licence had been terminated. It is considered a serious matter. So, we call for more inspection campaigns over the pharmacies, especially those that operate at night.
