Fujairah streets get a green face

FUJAIRAH - The Department of Public Works and Agriculture of the Fujairah government has embarked on a plan aimed at extending greenery across roundabouts and streets of the emirate and start new parks and gardens in downtown Fujairah and suburbs.

Salem Al Maksah, Director of the department, said that some horticulture projects have been completed in places like Maktoum Street Roundabout spreading over 1400 square metres. A new irrigation network has been installed there.

“Likewise, saplings were sown on Al Saif (Sword) Roundabout over 1700 square metres. A total of 40,000 flower seedlings were cultivated coinciding with the current winter season,” he added.

The department is replacing the irrigation network with a modern one at Al Ghurfa Street. Greenery has been extended over 1500 square metres.

“As for Al Dalah, Al Marash and Madkhan roundabouts, we are working on unearthing the surface layer of the old soil to be replaced with a new green layer,” Al Maksah stated. Al Salam Street also has been decorated after planting flower beds over 3600 square metres. Plantation work is now over on Fujairah Corniche Street over a total area of 28,000 square metres starting from the Water (marine) Club till Al Rughailat Roundabout close to Kalba city.
