Fujairah Municipality to Accept National
ID Card for All Transactions

FUJAIRAH — The Municipality of Fujairah has become the first civic body in the country to accept the national ID card for all transactions.

The municipality and Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) on Thursday signed an e-partnership agreement by which the national ID card. Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Director of the municipality, said the agreement is aimed at ensuring accuracy and streamlining transactions.

“It is a prelude to several steps the civic body is planning to take to make the ID card a requirement for doing all transactions inthe municipality,” he added. Darwish Al Zarounie, Director of EIDA, said the agreement was the first of its kind in the UAE in the municipal sector. “The Fujairah Municipality is the first civic body to take practical steps to activate the ID card,” he added, referring to a similar agreement with Dubai Courts. “There is a need for community awareness to activate the card in order to get the required results,” he noted. “The holder of the ID card can easily use it at e-gates though coordination with other government bodies is still going on in this regard,” he said. According to him, the deadline for registration for the ID card for residents and their families is December 31, 2010
