The festival is being organised under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, who will attend the event, in which 15 theatre works from Arab and other countries will be demonstrated.

The festival, into its fourth edition, will celebrate theatre as an art that meant for raising the awareness of people and improving their artistic taste, keeping away the monotonous show of awards and competitions.

It is designed to direct the attraction towards a style of theatrical expression, which has become the matter of concern to those who take theatre as an art.

All arrangements are being made for hosting the event and make it a success, said Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, deputy chairman of Fujairah Culture and Media Authority (FCMA).

Al Dhanhani, who is also chairman of the organising committee, described the event as the most prominent in the emirate, as it enjoys the sponsorship and direct support of Shaikh Hamad, as well as Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, and active follow up by Shaikh Rashid bin Hamad Al Sharqi, chairman of the FCMA.

“The opening of the festival will begin with staging of ‘Fujairah Theatre and Love’, a play written and directed by Mahir Al Salibi,” Dhanhani said.

Sama theatre and dancing troupe from Syria will stage the play. Winners of the international competition on monodrama scripts themed ‘Conflict’ will be honoured.

The other activities include discussion forums and workshops for training artists. Kennedy Arts Center of the USA will sign a cooperation agreement with the FCMA during the festival.

Prominent Egyptian actors and actresses will also take part in the festival. — salah@khaleejtimes.com
