Trident Group, a $1 billion conglomerate dealing in textiles and paper, was established in 1990 in Ludhiana, Punjab. In more than two decades the company has grown exponentially and expanded its footprint beyond India, says Mandeep Sethi, Head, International Marketing, Trident Group.
The company's two major business segments are textiles and paper. With state-of-the-art machinery and continuous expansion and modernisation of its processes, Trident has become one of the world's largest manufacturers of terry towels and wheat straw-based paper.
The company exports to a mix of speciality home stores, departmental stores and mass merchandisers. Export turnover accounted for about 50 per cent of total sales of the company in FY14, which was an increase of 26 per cent over the previous year. The top three export regions were the US, Hong Kong and Europe. The top three products exported are cotton terry towels, cotton yarn and paper.
Trident also has a presence in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The company sees good potential for growth for both retail and hospitality segments in the Gulf market. The recent lifting of sanctions to Iran would further drive trade in the region and would act as a catalyst for business growth, adds Sethi.
The company recently sponsored a housekeepers' event in Dubai to increase brand presence in the UAE hospitality market. It is also exploring the potential of distribution through warehousing channels in the region.
