Free, paid for newspapers can survive side by side

The session was moderated by Timothy Balding, CEO, World Association of Newspapers. Shezan Amiji, General Manager of 7Days and Gavin Dickinson, Commercial Director, Arab Media Group, UAE, were the main speakers at the event.

In his arguments for the presence of free newspapers, Amiji said, "We do not view free newspapers as a zero sum game. We made the decision based on a market study.'' He pointed out that the newspaper was already delivering 64,920 copies in the UAE of which 20-30 per cent were distributed through kiosks and stands while the rest were delivered at homes.
