A free lecture on ‘food safety and healthy food’ will be conducted at the Hor Al Anz district medical centre on April 11. A health fair will also be held which will be participated by medical practitioners and healthcare companies.

According to Samah Manzalawi, Novarti’s Consumer Health brand manager for Benefiber, they are supporting Ministry of Health (MOH) activities to help realise this year’s theme which is ‘Invest in Health, Build a Safer Future.’

“Fruits, vegetables, whole-grain and fortified foods, beans and legumes are good sources of both soluble and insoluble dietary fibre. Experts recommend including at least five servings of fruits and vegetables and choosing 6-11 servings of breads, cereals, rice and pasta each day. And when you increase fiber, always remember to drink more beverages to keep the fiber moving through your digestive tract,” Samah further explained. Welcare World Health Systems will offer a full day of free medical check-ups for the public on April 7. Blood pressure checks, blood sugar random tests, body mass index (BMI) tests, osteoporosis screening, dental check-ups for children and finally a basic eye check (vision testing) will be available in the Welcare Eye Centre, Welcare Ambulatory Care Centre and Emirates Diagnostic Clinic.

“The key health issues facing the UAE are diabetes and obesity. These are reaching epidemic proportions and health authorities are beginning to take note of the burden that this will place on future generations and their respective health services” according to Dr Ottmar Schmidt, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Welcare World Health Systems.
